About

Austin Animal Services is the municipal shelter for the City of Austin and unincorporated Travis County, providing shelter to thousands of animals annually. The facility accepts stray and owned animals regardless of age, health, species, or breed. Their goal is to place all adoptable animals in forever homes through adoption, foster care, or rescue partner groups.

What people say

The facility is recognized as a high-volume municipal shelter that saves over 95% of animals but frequently operates beyond capacity, leading to urgent pleas for fosters and adopters. While staff are described as trying their best under difficult conditions, recent audits highlight issues with strategic alignment and stakeholder engagement.
